Dear Friend of Youth:

Our club, The Optimist Club of Castaic, was chartered September 28, by none other than Cliff Katz, our Optimist International President. He was pleased at the enthusiasm of our charter members. He asked that I convey his deepest appreciation for the support of all members everywhere who endeavor to sponsor new members, whether it is a single individual or a brand new club.

We have been assisting the SCV-Newhall club with various projects. Since some of our members are also teachers or involved in the local educational process, ways are being explored on how to best utilize our new Optimist platform to best advantage in our schools. One of the first projects our club selected to perform on our own, was the Optimist International Oratorical Contest.

Optimist International is the fourth largest service organization in the world. Our motto is "Friend of Youth". We have clubs all over North America where approximately 4,200 clubs and 155,000 members make up the organization. The page you just came from explains some of the programs a nearby sister club is involved with.

Optimist International is a federation of clubs which encourages each of our clubs to develop projects to meet the needs of their individual communities. Some major reasons why we are the fastest growing service club in the world are:

1. 95% of the projects our clubs do directly involve our members with kids; and
2. all of the money raised by our clubs stay in the community.

Proceeds from our first fund raiser went to Heads Up, a therapeutic horseback riding program for the handicapped, which is located in Santa Clarita.

You might have an interest in belonging to this club, or a club in your area. We are extending an Invitation for you to join an Optimist meeting. Our club meets for dinner every Thursday at 7:30 p.m., at the 50's Cafe, located at 27526 Lake Hughes Road, Castaic. The meetings last about an hour.
